First a hearty farewell to the Russian hero Evgeny Gvozdev who build his own 5,5m sail boat strapped on the balcony of his apartment in a run down part of his home town mainly out of things he could find by walking the streets. In his own translated words:
“Big problem, I am old man, no money. I walk on Russian street. Look wood. Look metal.”
He sails with it around the world two times single handed and near to death escapes 14 Somalian pirates.
He was found dead with a broken skull 5 years ago on a beach in Italy under mysterious conditions with his boat stranded not far off.
His exploits are legendary and not many are remembered, unless of cause you know some to post below.
